Stopping in Urumqi in transit, need visa?

Hello,
my friend an I are going to Turkey with a stop of 3 hours in Urumqi. Do we need to apply for a transit visa? I am a citizen of Mexico and she is a citizen of Kyrgizstan.

Yes, both of you must apply for a transit visa.

National from certain countries can stay 72-hour visa-free in the following airports. Unfortunately, Urumqi airport is not included in the list.

Beijing Capital International Airport, Shanghai Pudong Airport, Hongqiao Airport, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, Shenyang Taoxian International Airport and Dalian International Airport.

Mexicans can stay in the above airports 72-hour visa-free, but your friend has to apply even if you are landing in these airports.
