Is it possible and reasonable to travel by train from Hong Kong or from a nearby city to Chengdu?

I am a law professor who plans to spend a total of 10 days in China in April.

Can I buy the train tickets in advance? Do I need to do so? Is there a national railway agency?

Thank you,

Hello Peter, there is no direct train from Hongkong to Chengdu, so you should first travel to Guangzhou which is about 2 hours bus or train drive from Hongkong, then there you can take train K192 to Chengdu, it will be a more than 40 hours journey.

I think if you are planning to go this month or next, you'd better book a ticket in advance. Here I found an online reservation site, hope it will be of any help:http://www.china-train-ticket.com

Any more questions, I'm glad to be of any help!

Hi,
Very glad to know you want to Chengdu to tour. You can take train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and then to Chengdu. Or flight to Chengdu directly from Hong Kong.
If you need help, please feel free to contact me.
