In the year of ice disaster, I went to an old town called Fenghuang old town (or Phoenix old town ) in Hunan province.

The old town is very busy in summer( they even charge entrance ticket now, but travelling in China, tickets are charged everywhere), but very quiet in winter. The whole old town was covered by snow, very beautiful.

As I was the only guest of the hostel, the hostel owner even invited me to have dinner with her family, very sweet. Cafe and bars were still open, although not many people visited.

The old town is divided by a river. There is a interesting bridge called jumping bridge crossing the river. Why it is called jumping bridge? It is because the bridge is built by a lot of separate stones. If you want to cross the bridge, you have to jump from one stone to another to cross it. It is very dangerous to cross the bridge in winter, because the stones in the middle of the river is very icy. I had to use both my feet and my hands to crawl across the bridge.

More pictures are in my album under the name of Fenghuang old town in winter.
