Hello, I'm Paulo from Portugal, and I have few doubts, so I would like to ask you guys some stuff connected to it, hope this amazing community can help me out.

Well, I'm thinking to move to China, to be with a girl who I met almost 2 years ago in internet we talk everydays and the fact is both of us fall in love, and we want to be together, so I'm trying to know some stuff like, how hard is for us foreingers to get married there? do we need lot of stuff? I have been reading this forum for a while, so far, very little about what i read really took out my doubts.
(PS: I already know her family, so I know she is not a golddigger, plus both of us came from poor families, so we give valor to other things, what I mean is, we're not materialist at all, so far I never had that feeling about her)

other is, I'm thinking to apply to a university there to learn chinese, do you guys know if is too expensive?
I want to use this way, because I wanna be with that girl, also in this way I can stay legal, we could just get married right away, but not sure if is it possible.

in case is possible to study there, after get the visa, can i extend it more?
or do I need to leave the country and apply again?
I heard those courses take around 6 month, from monday to friday, 4h per day, well i would be interested at first 6 month,(depending of the university prices of course) and then probably me and her, if we get along would get married, because one thing is fall in love by internet, other is living with her.

If we get married may I stay there, or is too hard to get the long stay visa?
I ask this, because she is not really interested to come to Portugal any time soon...she asked me to go there to live with her in there for a couple of years(who can blame her?, Portugal nowadays is not a place for young people such me, because no job oportunities)

I know even if I marry, I can't legally work there, well since I'm earning money throw internet(as Portuguese teacher, to a chinese company), that aint be a problem I guess.

Also learn mandarin is a plus, because I already know 3 languages, and I can communicate in all of them, being Portuguese, English and Spanish, of course I still have a lot to improve, in English and Spanish as well, but so far I feel I'm fine with my corrent level.

Thank you guys for any possible answer and for enlight me, because I do need some light in this matter. . .

PS: I'm thinking to go to China next year, around summer time(in case i get all the money needed...)

also I wanna be legal there, because I want to respect China politics.

sorry for any possible grammar mistakes

sincerely
Paulo

GUEST77546 Erico, she must be a Chinese, right? If so, it won’t be difficult for you to get married in China. Not too many documents will be required. For your, your passport and valid visa, your birth date, single certificate or divorce paper. And you need to get your birth date and single certificate certified by your national foreign affairs department, then authenticated by Chinese embassy in your country. Then, you need to get them translated by assigned translation companies in China and then notarize them at local notary office. Finally, you go to local civil affairs bureau to register your marriage.

Please read this page to learn about details on marriage in China.

Yes, you can apply for an university to study Chinese. If you are enrolled, your university will help you apply for X type. It depends on how long you study Chinese. In your case, I think you will get a X2 type which allows you stay as long as 180 days. Again, the consular officers decide how long duration you will get according to your study period in China.

If you don’t finish your courses during the duration of stay listed on your visa, you can ask for an extension with the help of your school at least 7 days before your current X type expires. There is no need for you to exit mainland to apply one. However, if you were told that you couldn’t extend your X type, then you need to go out of mainland China to apply for another one instead. Anyway, please don’t worry about this because your university can help you with these problems.

If you get married with her, then you may try to apply for Q1 type. It allows you to stay more than 180 days in China. Your marriage certificate, an invitation letter from your Chinese wife and a copy of her Chinese ID card are required. And I am afraid that you need to go back to Portugal to apply for the Q1 type. Anyway, you can go to local entry and exit management bureau to confirm this. If they told you couldn’t apply in mainland China, then you have no choice but go back to apply for the Q1 type. By the way, you can get married when you hold a X type.

It’s true that you can’t take any job if you hold X or Q type because it’s illegal. However, many foreigners actually work in China without having Z visas. They are fine as long as they are not reported to local entry and exit management bureau.
