First time traveler to China itinerary

guest42338 Hi, I'm a solo female traveler this would be my first time in China. I have about 3 weeks to spend in China on mid january 2015 on a bacpacker budget. I planned to visit Xian, Datong, Hohhot and Beijing.

Here's my itinerary:

Day 1-4 Xian with a daytrip to Huashan

Day 5-7 Datong

8-10 Hohhot

11 overnight train to Beijing

12-16 Beijing

17-18 Xian (flight home)

Will it be too much for a first timer and someone who doesn't understand Mandarin to travel to Hohhot? Since I'm traveling during winter will it be worth it to travel to Hohhot I know that I'd probably won't be able to see the grassland but I'm interested with the culture of Inner Mongolia. Thanks a lot!

GUEST54546 GUEST42338,

Hohhot is much colder than other cities you plan to visit. It's ok for you to visit Xian, Datong and Beijing. However, I don't think it's a good idea to visit Hohhot in winter. In Xian, you may visit Terra Cotta Warriors, Shaanxi Provincial Museum and City Wall apart from Huashan.

In Beijing, Forbidden City, Great Wall, Hutongs and local snacks shouldn't be missed.
