I don't know how to express this, but I am feeling lost when I hear people say somewhere is Oriental ... or ... in China, such as "Oriental Venice", and I just happened to see a pic in this forum named like "Disney in China".

Yes, we are trying to do as good as western world, but China has something of her own.

More on Oriental ... or ... in China are welcomed!

Usually water towns are likely named as Venice.
What else?

Hi,

that has nothing to do with East vs West or whatever. People just compare similiar things to the most typical/most famous things...the state of the art so to say.

And Im sorry to tell you, but Venice is on top of all "water" cities by far.

And if someone calls a Chinese sight a kind of Disneyland, that means this place is getting tooo commercial. Thats no compliment at all;-)

But to dry your tears, most of Chinese Culture is unique, impossible to compare to other places!

I searched in Google by the keyword of "Oriental Venice", I got these:

"Zhouzhuang - Oriental Venice"

"In order to become a real Oriental Venice by 2020, Shanghai plans to build two sewage disposal plants..."

"Shanxing has a long way to go before it becomes a real Oriental Venice, because..."

"Suzhou - Oriental Venice" - a name of an essay, I didn't read it.

"Oriental Venice - Water town Tongli"

"Hanjiang - Oriental venice"

"Tianjin is aiming at becoming Oriental Venice"

"Guilin will become Oriental Venice"

...

Now Oriental Disneyland:

"Zhengding in Hebei Province - is called Oriental Disney - "

"Shenyang old industry city will build an Oriental Disneyland"

"Suzhou(again) orient its park to Disney"

... trust me, they are compliments or more!

Venice or Disneyland are beautiful and unique, but it is not good if the world full of venices or disneylands.

Thank you, ELCABRON and I agree that Chinese Culture is unique:)

Maybe you should check out the real Venice, first;-)

If Disney Land is your way cultural holidays it is ok, but to me it is a comparison like fire and water, black and white, ....cant see anything nice in calling a cultural sight a Disney Land.......
