| My wife (a Nanning native) and I hope to travel from Beijing to Lhasa in the next year or two. I'd really like to go there on the high-speed train. How long would that take? Using the booking function, I saw that it is 1 day, 18 hours by train, but is that the high-speed train? In 2010, Apault said foreigners could not go into Tibet by train. Is that still true? We're trying to count the travel days needed for our trip. I think we'll need at least 3 weeks to do all that we hope to do: Tibet, Xian, and Nanning to see family and friends. I'd also like to meet business connections in both Beijing and in Shanghai. I haven't been in Shanghai since 1978, so that will be a surprise As with all things, we need to balance time and money carefully and then save for the trip. Tibet and Xian are our primary destinations and the family visit is mandatory, the rest of it is not essential for the trip. |
