A young photographer named Wang Dong has put himself in controversy because of several nude photos he took inside the Forbidden City. One of these nude photos shows a naked model rides on the head of a stone animal called Chi, a legendary dragon without the horns.

Yesterday, the Forbidden City made an official response to the nude photos incident. According to the surveillance video, Wang Dong and the other three people bought the entrance tickets and entered at 08:30 on May 17. At 08:50, the patrolmen found that these four people took nude photos near the Hall of Supreme Harmony. Of course, the patrolmen stopped them taking photos.

According to an official of the Forbidden City, taking nude photos is against the public order and social ethnics. Also it insults and damages the cultural and historical relics. Such a behavior should be condemned.

Many people agree to what the official said. However, a small number of people think that Wang Dong didn’t take nude photos. Instead, he took nude art photos. In other words, these are not nude photos but artistic photos.

What do you think?

More about Wang Dong:
He graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing and continues his study of landscaping in the USA currently. Meanwhile, he is also a human body photographer.

Seems like the "freedom of art" has landed to China, too...

Yea, I understand that the artists want to break the limits, but perhaps I´m too old to accept everything.

IMO art must not and should not give anyone a priviledge to insult other people and that´s what certainly will happen for instance in Forbidden City or in any place which has any historical or emotional meaning to people when one performs naked or does something else not "suitable" for the spirit of the place...
