Health Certificate for Marriage

guestLaoDing I'm engaged (I'm a US citizen, she is a PRC lady) and wondering about the health certificate. Every English site I read about getting married says that you both need one, but the Chinese sites don't mention it. I really don't want to ask my bride to get a health check, I'd rather have the law do it. I love and trust my bride and would still marry her whatever the outcome of a health check, but I would feel much better if we both had a check up before marriage.

Does that make sense?

Anyway- which is it? Need or no need? And I sometimes see 'birth certificate' (for me) mentioned. Really? I would not know how to begin getting that...
Also- I have official divorce papers, but they are in Japanese. The American Consulate in Japan has no services regarding divorce papers. Will I have to have them translated and notarized in China? Probably so.
Thanks!

GUESTOSCAR in the papers from the consulate it states you both see a doctor and have the form for her filled out. you you just a doctor's statement. she will have to go to the health department after arrival and get the shots she may have not had as an infant...good luck, my Chinese wife is just a blessing.
