Shanghai to Hangzhou by train

guest89662 I will be staying near the Yu Gardens in Shanghai (Old Town) and want to take the train to Hangzhou (hotel by the lake). Which railway station should I leave from in Shanghai and should I purchase my tickets in advance?

I suggest you take high speed trains. They depart from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. It just takes one hour. The costs are CNY 73/77.5 for second class seat and CNY 117 /123.5 for first class seat.

If you stay near to Yu Garden, then you just need to find Yuyuan Station of Subway line 10 and then take it to Hongqiao Railway Station directly.
