African American teaching in China

Greetings. I am a 35-year-old African American woman who will be accepting a teaching position as a Foreign Expert. I have a 10 year old son. Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter? Has anyone noticed how people of color are treated in China? Thanks.

Not as bad as in the US. Maybe people will stare at you (happens to most foreigners) but you wont get beaten up by the police.

I agree, all foreigners are stared at in general (although not as much in the big cities). But i've never experienced any racism in China, except towards the Japanese.

I've met a few african americans studying both in Shanghai and Beijing and there doesn't seem to be any problems.

Staring is just because of interest. Especially in rural areas they dont see many foreigners, so people tend to stare at aliens, no racist background.
