Visa needed if not leaving airport?

guest94113 Hello! I am flying from Thailand to Hong Kong to get a flight back to the USA. I am flying standby so I do not have a confirmed seat on the plane from Hong Kong Kong to USA. I only get a seat on a plane when a seat is available to me. Do I need a visa to leave Thailand to go to Hong Kong. I will be at the airport no more then 48 hours max.

GUEST45787 You are American, right? If so, you needn't worry about this because you enjoy 90 days free stay without visa.
