I am afraid that you may not change your S2 into a Z type successfully in mainland. According to what I heard, the applicants are required to apply in their own countries. Where are you now? If you are in mainland, I suggest you visit local entry and exit management bureau to ask if you can apply without leaving. If they insist that you should apply in your country, then you have to bring all required documents to apply in your own country.

You need a legitimate job.

The company must apply for an invitation letter for you from the local Public Safety Bureau. Once you have this, you can take it and your passport to ANY Chinese Embassy or China Visa Service Center anywhere in the world and make an application for a new visa. I'm Canadian but I just did a new visa in Bangkok in 36 hours. The fees range between 400rmb and 1200 rmb depending on how fast you need the visa. 2 years ago, I went to Hong Kong and got my visa inside of 10 hours. I paid about 2200 for the rush service, but when I figured in the price of Hong Kong hotels, it was cheaper to pay extra and sleep on the plane, so that's what I did. Plus my wife was pregnant, so I was in a hurry!

Your best options are Seoul, South Korea; Bangkok, Thailand; and Hong Kong. It really depends on which is closest to you and what your travel rights are. I'm Canadian, so I don't need a visa to enter those countries. Your own rights might be different depending on where you come from.
