Which would be a faster route - by train or bus? And what about the cost?

GUEST16865 Long-distance bus is a little bit faster, about 10 hours. But I only find one departure at 14:30 at Chengdu North Bus STation.
I presonally recomend you to travel by train, which is safer and more comfortable. There are 12 departures per day, with the shortest duration of about 13.5 hours. Ticket fare for a hard seat is CNY 194 and for a hard sleeper is CNY 301.
