Travelling to northeast China this december

guest12249 Hello experts,

My wife and I are planning a trip before x-mas to Beijing and make our way to Harbin in January

We will have roughly 2 weeks.

We have traveled China many times, covered ShangHai, YunNan, and SiChuan before, and we found some repetitive site or underwhelming one, like after we went to JiuZhaiGou we went to PuTaCuo which is very unimpressive compared to JZG

Do you think we should go and check out Chengde, ShanHaiGuan, ShengYang, Jilin and ChangChun, or just do Beijing and straight to Harbin.

I also am considering a day trip to PingYao.

Thank You

GUESTDAVE There is a big possibility you will think these places (Chengde, ShanHaiGuan, ShengYang, Jilin and ChangChun) are unimpressive after going to Beijing and Harbin.

Pingyao is worth going in my opinion, different from the places you have been to. After, how about going to Xian? It is about 3-hour bullet train ride from Pingyao.

GUESTGUEST12249 Thank you GUESTDAVE

I do not want to push that far into Xian since I will save Xian for another trip together with GanSu.
The star of this trip is actually Harbin.

BTW If we want to ski (no experience, complete newbie) is it better to do it around Beijing or Harbin?

GUESTDAVE If you are newbie, I think Beijing will meet your requirements. There are many ski resorts in suburban areas. Just carefully choose a nice one. BTW, have you heard about Zhangjiakou? It's not far from Beijing and is going to hold the 2022 winter olympics, so they are buiding or reconstructing some high-level ski trails right now. When you are in Beijing, maybe some of them will be finished and can be good choices for you too. Last but not least, you can also go skating in shaichahai area of Beijing. It will be lots of fun if your childish disposition remains.

Harbin is well known for the Yabuli ski resort. But if you are new newbie, I don't think it worths a 3-hour ride from Harbin. Of course, there are smaller ski resorts near Harbin. But there may be too many tourists as it's the peak travel season in that city.

GUEST92127 Thank you,

So I will looks for skiing in Beijing before we move to Harbin.
We never skied in our life so it is better to go to the one that is accessible with less crowds since the crowds in china is unlike anywhere else on earth
