shoes or sandals for summer?

Hi-
Travelling to Shanghai, Xian, Leshan, Xian, Chengdu in July and August. Lots of walking... wondering if you'd choose sandals or lightweight sneakers?
Are there safety concerns with sandals?

I'll bring both sandals and a pair of flat walking shoes:)

yes i would do the same as Dee. Or you can take a pair of lightweight shoes and buy sandals here in China.
