Over-staying on a Temporary Resident Permit (Student Category)

guest91055 Dear All!

1. I am currently holding a Temporary Resident Permit for Student category since last one year. Currently, my Passport is expiring on 31 December, 2016, which means that my Resident Permit is also ending too... Now, to renew/reissue my passport, for last over 3 months, i have been engaged with many mandatory permission letters from my organization, home government and my embassy. In short, my Passport can NOT be renewed before 15th January, 2017 under current situation.

Now, the question is: Once my Resident Permit (and the Passport) expires on 31 Dec, is there some legal option for me to stay in China and keep continuing my university studies (i do not plan to travel or go out). As stated, i can get my new passport till 15th Jan and can apply for new Resident Permit then. If this is not possible, then i would have to go back to my country, renew the passport, get a new Chinese visa to come again. Please help!

2. Next, I had also invited my family to stay with me, who were also issued with Temp. Resident Permit on their visit visas till 31 Dec, 2016. Their passports are valid for next few years while only the Resident Permit is expiring because i was their inviter.

The question is that if i have to go back to my country on 31st Dec, then is there some option for my family to convert their current Resident Permit to some other Visa category etc so that they can stay here for next few weeks or months (till my passport/Resident Permit problems are solved). If needed, i can get invitation letters from my Chinese friends, university teachers or even some letter from university in this regard.

Thanks for any kind and valuable suggestion,

Kind Regards
