Couldn't find a definite answer for my question but point towards the right thread if it already exists!
I'm planning on going to China for work, with a double entry visa.
Before staying in Shanghai for my work, I would need to do a direct transit in this city (no getting out of the airport).
Will this transit eat up one of the entries permitted by the visa?
To be clear: I want to transit in Shanghai, which does not require a visa, but I would be the holder of a valid double entry visa at the time.
Thanks!

If you travel like country A-Shanghai (less than 144 hours)-country B, you will be able to use the 144 hour free transit in Shanghai. When you transit in Shanghai, you need to tell the consular officers that you won’t need to use your visa. In this case, you can save your double-entry visa.
