I am travelling to Yunnan in September and have been told that some of the areas I may visit could be malarial. What is the level of risk here? Do I need to take medication for this or will insect repellent suffice? Will be staying in hotels while there.

I was there in August and September, travelling to many places in Yunnan and Sichuan. I dont think malaria is a threat. There are plenty insect repellent products. Some can be applied to your skin and others can be burned or sprayed in hotels.

A small bottle of essential balm would be of help.

I think it's ok.I traveled around Yunnan for 45 days but I was all right. And I ate food on street every day,not in restaurante. If you worry about it,you can buy medicine in Yunnan.
Have a nice trip!
