I would recommend spring or autumn but be sure to avoid the two golden weeks (May 1st to May 7th and October 1st to October 7th).

Thank you all for your reply.

As the fair to Hongkong so cheap, probably I can start my journey from Hongkong, then go to mainland of China.(As I read from some China travel brochures, it says, Beijing, Shanghai,Xi'an and Guilin are must destination), do you guys have any other ideas about other destinations?

Thanks a lot.

Hong Kong is the best place for Spring Festival.

So is Guang Zhou. Inland cities have less and less mood for the Spring Festival.

Spring in Xi'an is great and early summer and autumn...

July in Shanghai is kind of suffering...

October is beautiful in Beijing and it is so crowded with all those meetings and travellers.
