Transit visa

Struggling to get a clear answer and am already overseas.
I have a flights booked, Manila to Guangzhou, Guangzhou to jinan, jinan to Los angles. All seperate flights with about 3 hours between each so total time in China about 10 hours
Flying under an Australia passport will I be able to utilise the visa free transfer or will I have to organise a transit visa prior to arrival.

Any help would be much appreciated

Could I just confirm as I was in line at the Chinese consulate in ho chi min city when I got the response.

They were quite unclear but in the end told me I would not qualify and would need a transit visa but also I am unable to organise there due to being on a tourist visa
