Entering mainland China on a temporary residence permit in expired passport?

guest47230	Hello, I have a temporary residence permit obtained in April 2017 that expires in April 2018, in my old UK passport that I have just had renewed. I plan to arrive in Beijing in March 2018 and travel straight to Tianjin where I obtained this residency permit to get it renewed. Will I be allowed to enter China with this residency permit in an old passport? I originally obtained the residency permit with a student visa, as I am doing fieldwork in China. The details on the old and new passports are exactly the same. Thank you, any advice/first hand experience very much appreciated!
