Nowadays, mobile phones become an indispensable part in our daily life. We use them to pay, browse news, listen to music, and enjoy videos. Playing with mobile phones is a main way for killing time while taking a subway. As they easily run out of power for frequent use, many would take a power bank to charge the phone in time.

However, recently, Xi’an Metro announced that they planned to prohibit the use of power banks on subway for safety concern. This has stirred up a debate on the internet. Some people agreed with this proposal, in view of the fact that a few accidents were caused by the use of power banks previously. As subway is a place of high density of people, most passengers put the power bank in pockets or bags while it is working. In the closed environment, power banks may become very hot and then give out smoke or even explode, which can be very dangerous.

On the contrary, some people think it is a storm in a teacup. The odds of accidents is very small, so it is not necessary to prohibit the use of power banks on subway. And it is hard to check whether someone is using a power bank in the crowds.

In my opinion, power banks should not be prohibited on subway, but there should be a limit to the maximum electric capacity. Besides, the relevant authority should propagandize the public to avoid using power banks on subway. Dear visitors, what is your opinion? Please vote.

The decision to prohibit power banks on subways or any public transportation system depends on various factors, including safety concerns, regulations, and potential risks. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, I'm not aware of any widespread prohibition of power banks on subways. However, policies and regulations can vary from one city or country to another.

The primary concern with power banks is the possibility of fire hazards if they are damaged, faulty, or mishandled. Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in power banks, have the potential to overheat and catch fire under certain circumstances. To mitigate these risks, many transportation authorities and airlines typically require passengers to carry their power banks in their carry-on luggage rather than checked baggage. Additionally, some regulations may restrict the capacity of power banks that can be carried on public transportation for safety reasons.

I personally think it shouldn't be prohibited. A lot of us need power banks on a daily basis.
