I don't think it was the case, say, 10 years ago.

Compares with 10 years ago, individual's wealth as well as the whole nation's wealth have quite a great "leap forward", but what I personaly see is more and more people turn to religions- mostly Christianism and Buddism. Can I tentatively say that sense of security does not necessarily grow with the increasing of wealth?

Many people probably remember that during cultural revolution, almost all the temples, churches, mosques etc in sight were demolished as superstitions. And now, the most you can see in this country's tourist areas are temples. Why is that( During the same time, the science and education developed enormously. )? Because people believe it and donate a lot to built. Again, why?

As the economic developed, our lives were changed a lot,and people need a place to save their soul!Maybe they don't know the real meaning of the religion, but they need it!!!Either christianism or buddish!
Of coures, they destoryed the temple, the church etc.during the Culture Revolutionary, but it was forced!!!

During those years (cultural revolution), most people were just like from the same product line, repeating what was said and thinking exactly what was expected. The red army were not forced, they did those things on their own will - well, they thought it was their will. I am not blaming, people in that huge wave could hardly keep from floating with it, and lose the basic judgement.

Several years after CR, a number of people still thought religions were superstitions. But, for sure, the tidal wave of religion THIS TIME was coming from the South, where economy got resuscitated.

Blankness? Right, why is the demanding of the spirit so strong now?

The more things change, the more they stay the same - if you think about it, the changes you talk about are different expressions of the same thing.

The red guard standing with red books in hand, cheering for Chairman Mao with their hands waving in the air... the Christians standing with their bible, praising God, hands waving in the air... I went to an AMWAY meeting in Shanghai not long ago, where the prospective clients were being excited by the marketing speaker, holding their product guides, hands waving in the air chanting 'An Li Hao!'

Almost all social activities of all kinds break down to simple forces. People need to be together, and one of the side effects of happiness shared within a group is excitement, which often leads to fanaticism. Getting excited about earning money is almost the same as getting excited about believing in God - they're both about a blind hope for the future. None of it ever makes you satisfied - it's not supposed to work that way. DESIRE is a MOTOR, to make a human being do something, it never promises satisfaction, and if you get what you want, you'll find something else to desire.

Absolutely! Anything that tells you that learning English is more important than being good to your mother and father, and that anything that stops you from studying in evil is highly suspect!
