To start a discussion again on whether a train still does the kunming to hanoi route. Is this train still running, or is the only option the bus. If the bus is the option, does anyone know how long this takes. Is it quicker or slower than the train.

i heard the train can take 16 hours from Kunming to the border. is the Bus faster?

if anyone has information that would be great

Train is no longer operated. Daily bus takes over 10 hours and costs less than US$24, but the condition of the bus is really bad.

CNR are reported to have have sold the metre gauge passenger rolling stock from this line to Myanmar Railways. Hence currently freight only runs on the metre gauge trackage from Kunming to the border.
