I dont know if it is the same in English, but a Dom or a Cathedral is normally the seat of a bishop, whereas a church is just a simple place to pray. Cologne has maybe 6 or 7 churches but only one Dom. Every little town has its own church, but a Cathedral or Dom is special - and much bigger.

hi california, strange name for a person..anyway... mine's just a normal name in my country. it's an abreviation of "spasitel" = "someone who saves people's lives"..No Comment!""" btw, "Cathedral" is the principal church of a diocese, containing the bishop's throne. spas

Ahh, thanks for solving that mystery for me! In england, it's not possible for a town to become a city unless it has a cathederal. So i wondered what exactly was the difference. Now i know. Thanks.
