JABAROOTOO's Travel Journals (77)
Yangshuo
August 24, 2004 - August 28, 2004
An epic journey across the country from Xinjiang finally comes to an end in idyllic, romantic Yangshuo. A great place to soak up the atmosphere and relax after weeks of arduous travel.
Sanjiang
August 23, 2004 - August 24, 2004
Not far from Sanjiang is the beautiful Chengyang Qiao or Wind and Rain Bridge set amidst green rice terraces and water wheels. A day trip to the surrounding villages is sure to catch a local market day and women making traditional dyed fabrics and clothing
Guizhou
August 21, 2004 - August 23, 2004
Zhaoxing, a large Dong village with five drum towers is a great base for hiking and exploring the other villages in the area
Guizhou
August 20, 2004 - August 20, 2004
Another great bus journey from Kaili via Sandu, Rongjiang to Congjiang following the picturesque Duilu He.
Kaili
August 17, 2004 - August 18, 2004
We didn't actually stop in Kaili, instead we stayed in Leishan to the south visitng Xijiang, the largest Miao village deep in the Leigong mountains
Anshun
August 16, 2004 - August 17, 2004
We ate lunch between buses for Guiyang on our way to Kaili and the surrounding minority villages.
Guizhou
August 14, 2004 - August 16, 2004
Pass through Kunming bound for Xingyi in the south home to spectaclar Maling Gorge and minority groups. Landscape is similar to Guilin
Lijiang
August 10, 2004 - August 14, 2004
Lijiang revisited. So relaxing to stay in a small guesthouse in the 'Old City' and explore at your leisure. We arrived during the Torch Festival by bus from Panzhihua. It's almost 12 hours over windy, cobbled roads, at altitude and very beautiful.
Sichuan
August 7, 2004 - August 9, 2004
Passing through Chengdu once again to Emeishan where we celebrate my mothers 75th birthday during her second epic journey across China. It's possible to get to the top without exerting too much effort and eventually be swollowed up by the swirling clouds around this massive peak. From here we travelled via Panzhihua on route to Yunnan.
Lanzhou
August 5, 2004 - August 6, 2004
This was our first real experience on a sleeper bus from Jiayuguan arriving early morning to finally see the mighty Yellow River.
