Horrible taxi drivers

We found the taxi drivers in Beijing rude and very impolite. They refused to use the meters and quoted very high prices to take us any where. They did not speak any English. We spoke to other tourists and staff members at the hotel and they all shared the same experience. 
We live in Shanghai so are used to Chinese taxidrivers, but this was a really bad aspect of travelling in Beijing.
