Domestic airfares and timetables for trains and planes
By JABAROOTOO | 6/27/2007 9:56:41 AM
It's right here in Travel China Guide's Web site. Scroll up to the top of the web page you’ll notice there are 7 tabs beginning from the left. Home, City Guide, Tours, Cruises, Hotels, Testimonials, Community - where this forum is located
On the top right of the page you will see two more ICONS A Plane, and Search tab. You'll find trains in the Search sub-menu. A simple click on these and you will enter a search window where you are asked for your input
PLANES gives you drop down menu for point of departure and arrival, time of day you wish to fly and will give you a list of all flights between these cities, including times, aircraft type, price and days of the week each service is available
TRAINS gives you ‘leaving from’ and ‘going to’ fields and a CITY LIST if you are not sure the spelling etc. If direct trains are available you will get a list of train numbers, departure and arrival times, total duration of trip and standard of train i.e. with or without A/C Train numbers also indicate the speed and standard of the trains and the reverse trip is coded with last digit change. Clicking on the train number will give you all the stops the train makes and the cost of all the seats and berths available. Where there are no direct trains you may include the VIA field where you may need to change trains. Good idea to have map of China handy when using the train search.
SEARCH includes three fields and a dropdown menu where you can search for specific information on this site.
All prices are quoted in US$. Train prices and times are pretty rigid so what you see will not vary much if anything, however flights are more flexible and are subject to changes without notice. You may also pick up some good discounts for much less than the official quoted prices on some routes.
Below is another website which also gives availability of seats on flights and online purchase of tickets. www.chinahighlights.com
Go check it out

TRAINS
By KYLE | 10/4/2005 2:33:25 AM
Let me tell ya a little secret I learned. Say your out of time and low on cash but you still want to go somewhere. Heres what you can do. Buy a ticket to somewhere, just a standing ticket on the train. When someone gets out of there seat, take it, then you have a seat, once more people leave you might even be able to lie down on the seat. K you dont want to lie down in the hard seat section of the train, its also possible to buy a sleeper, depending on how well you can negociate, youll do well.

Tissues - wherever you go!
By JAKIVO | 9/24/2005 11:38:24 AM
Don't know about the guys - but ladies don't be surprised when you go into a WC and stall doors are open while "business" is being conducted. If you're not comfortable with that yet, don't be afraid to wait for one that has a door or go all the way to the end of the bathroom (by a fan is best). But most importantly . . . DO NOT EXPECT THERE TO BE TOILET PAPER! Thankfully I never go anywhere without tissues. Carry a travel pack of tissues (and hand sanitizer) with you. You'll never regret it!

Stay away from Nasty Tibetan Women
By BILL888 | 9/15/2005 7:47:44 PM
The greatest danger to travellers here is not altitude sickness...it is walking in the open market downtown. The open-air stalls here are mainly run by very, very aggressive Tibetan women who get nasty if you do not buy something. One even spit at us when we did not buy their product!! Instead, I recommend the stores behind these stalls. Most of these are run by chinese who will give you a much better deal and also be much more polite. Otherwise, have fun and enjoy the temples.

waking early morning
By MADL49 | 9/11/2005 5:42:13 AM
You have better to wake early in the morning in China to see the people execising through the streets and squares. The life starts in China earlier than most of other countries. You can see the people going to work or exercising on 5:00 am or even earlier!
