Ti'an men is the heart of Beijing, a vast desert of pavement and photo-booths. The square is Mao's creation, asis Chang'an Jie leading up to it.During the Cultural Revolution, the chairman, wearing a Red Guard armband, reviewed parades of up to a million people here.

One Day Trips in Beijing
By WKSEAH | 4/30/2005 2:31:55 PM
I just came back from Beijing. Beware if you decided to join a one day trip to the Great Wall and Ming Tomb. Be sure to ask if there are any other places the tour guide will bring you to that you have to pay extra. I join an one day trip to the Great Wall and Ming Tomb that said to cost 100RMB. I thought it's reasonable. But when I got on the bus, the tour guide collected a mandatory fees of 30RMB for a sliding car up to the Great Wall. It was said to be of safety reasons. In addition, she also forced everyone to pay an extra 40RMB to go into a Wax Museum that showed the history of Ming Dynasty. She said it bluntly that it was the only way she could make money from this trip. So, be sure to ask before you sign up for any trip!!

Badaling Great Wall
By COLLINS | 1/11/2005 10:08:59 AM
Badaling Great Wall is the most complete and well-preserved section of the Ming Dynasty. Just as a Chinese saying goes, "He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man". Here, both south and north parts of the Badaling Great Wall are strongly recommended, for either part has its own characteristic.
Remember: Whenever you visit the Great Wall, please be sure to take a bag for collecting the rubbish and take the rubbish away, because pollution in areas around the Great Wall is very serious.

Tips for the tours
By INTIANJIN | 8/8/2004 11:40:43 AM
When you go on a tour to see the sites remember the license plate of your bus because thats how you know which is yours. Get a tour only to the places you want to see. If you get the '5 places tour' then you're going to end up at fascinating places like shoe markets, mineral exhibits, or which ever locations you guide has cut deals with.
