Night Markets
By KANATO | 8/28/2005 7:42:26 PM

If you a great shopper, then you should definitely go to the night markets. I've been to two: the ladies' market and the temple market. If you want to buy craft, paintings, then you should go to the temple market. If you want to buy clothes, shoes, hand bags, then you should go to ladies' market. Make sure that you bargain with the shop owners! If they don't bargain with you, or if they don't want to lower their price, pretend to walk away... they will call you back and give you the price you asked for!! hehhe!! A smile does help when you bargain with the shop owners!

Sik Sik Yuen Garden
By PRAISEHIMANYHOW | 8/2/2005 10:24:18 AM

Sik Sik Yuen Garden is a veritable oasis of serenity amid the chaos of Hong Kong's bustling city life. The garden is a peaceful green spot, and it is visited by many tourists as well as the locals.

This sanctuary offers viewers a picturesque Kodak moment in just about every inch of the garden. As an exotic yet traditional Chinese garden, Sik Sik Yuen is full of pavilions, ponds, streams, rocks, bridges, flowers, trees, a corridor, and a man-made waterfall.

The garden is one of two gardens on the Wong Tai Sin Temple Compound. Along with the Sik Sik Yuen Garden, the other features of the Wong Tai Sin Temple include: the triple-arch gate; two terraces; the main altar; the Three Saints Hall; the five geomantic buildings of Bronze Pavilion, Archives Hall, Fountain, Yue Heung Shrine, and Earth Wall; the Unicorn Hall; the Ye Mut Hall; the Fung Ming Hall; and the Nine Dragon Wall Garden.

Lastly, after a leisurely stroll through Sik Sik Yuen, if you enjoy having your fortune told then you can visit the fortune-telling arcade, which also is a part of the Wong Tai Sin Temple complex. Additionally, there are oblation stalls that are in this complex.

Delicious Indian Food
By ELCABRON | 2/20/2005 11:01:43 PM

The shabby building of the Chungking Mansions on Nathan Road is famous for many things. Bunker atmosphere, hookers whistling around every corner: Fake Rolex? Cheap suit? Marijuana? Girls?!?
But despite all the negative reasons for avoiding it you should give this building a try. Just because of the best Indian restaurants in town. They are quite famous, that is why I sometimes had to wait up to 45 minutes to get a table - but it was worth it!

cheap place to stay in Hong Kong
By ELCABRON | 2/20/2005 3:30:39 AM

Hk is the most expensive city in China. If you want to keep it cheap for a backpacker it is not that easy.

But as long as you are travelling without girlfriend (they make travelling soooooo expensive;-)
I can tell you of the MIRADOR ARCADE right on Nathan Road No. 58, the main shopping road of TsimShaTsui Kowloon District, HK. There are many Guesthouses inside.
It is possible to stay there for 50 HKD a night in dormitory rooms. Which sometimes means 14 beds - yes, every square centimeter is expensive and has to be used in HK!
The building is totally run down just like the Chungking Mansions, which is famous of the movie Chungking Express. Some scenes show the bunker atmosphere quite well. Inside both buildings you find a mixture of Pakistani, Indian, African shops. There is whistling from every corner: (Fake Rolex? Cheap suit? Marijuana? Girls?!?)
But inside the Chungking Mansions there are also delicious Indian restaurants. They are quite famous, that is why I sometimes had to wait up to 45 minutes to get a table - but it was worth it!
