Now let’s see the other side of the coin. When the American movie <<Terminator>> came to china, we were shocked. As Arnold Schwarzengger said:”trust me” in the movie, we really believe that the American movies can bring enjoyment to us .We were surprising at the westerners’ advanced movie technology and imagination. Then, more and more western tech-movies keep on flooding onto china: 《Titanic》(泰坦尼克)、《Star Wars Episode》(星球大战前传系列)、《Starship Troopers》(星河战队系列)、《Star Trek》(星际旅行系列)、《Spiderman》(蜘蛛侠)、《Harry Potter》(哈利波特)、《The Matrix》(骇客帝国)、《The Lord of The Rings》(指环王)、《The Independence Day》(独立日) and so on.
The vast spaceship in 《Star Wars Episode》、the thousands of aliens in 《Starship Troopers》、the fantastic besom in 《Harry Potter》、the flying bullets in 《The Matrix》、the ghost army of Aragon in 《The Lord of The Rings》… …all of them are created by the computer.
If you know them, it’s my pleasure to quote a line which said by Trinity (girl friend of Neo in 《The Matrix》):” welcome to the reality”. Truly, that’s the reality.

2、 connotation\meaning

if someone wants to know more, or want to have a discussion with me, I’m glad to go on my statement.
In this section it’ll refer to the 《Rainman》(雨人)、《The river through out》(大河流过)、《肖沙克的救赎》、《寻找梦幻岛》、《辛德勒的名单》、《钢琴师》、french movie《蝴蝶》、《出租车》、《浮宫魅影》、《Peacock》(孔雀)、《Cell Phone》(手机)、《A World without thieves》(天下无贼)、《大腕》… …

Thank you ~

Well, Frankenstein, your reply post is the longest one I have ever seen. You are really an expert on movies. It seems that you like the science fictive movies than other types, right? But frankly I always have problems when watching this kind of movies. For The Lord of the Ring, I cannot figure out what is it talking about. :(

I have to admit that although there are some finely produced moives such as Hero ,Cell Phone ~~ ,they cannot touch my soul ,no matter the technic or content .
I donn't know whether The Pianist was produced in Hollywood or not ,I was deeply moved and shocked when I was watching it .It didn't use many advanced computer technology ,but it is splendid .I think it is the best exampl to those directors who always want to splurge his technique, content is the soul of a movie ,it can not only win the market but also the heart of every audience.

the theme of 《the lord of the rings》is very simple,it is called as the westerners'《Journey to the West》,its plot is infant-----just good guies defeat the devil-------that's all. i'm interested in ite vision impact result from advanced movie-tech.

real significant American movies aren't those, like <<the lord of the rings>>、<<harry potter>>、etc.

for example, from <<Black Hawk Down>>,what will you get?
from <<Schindeler's List>>what can you see?
forom <<Angel Emily>>、<<City of Angels>>、<<Out of Africa>>... ...
... ... ...

Well, hey Frakenstein, I have to say someting about the Schindeler's List and Out of Africa. Ror the first one, I have to say that I was really touched by it. I'v got so much from this movie, love, responsibility, humanity, respect, and the like. The hero tries his best to help those who are persecuted by the Nazi. Although he has almost used up all his wealth, he still cried bitterly for his incapability to save all the poor people. I shed tears at that time. And for the second one, I learned a lot from it, bravery, diginity, self-love, persistence, so many things. Although the black heroine suffers a lot, she never loses hope for life. To some extent she is my spiritual idol.

Good to know that CONTENT is not related to special effects.......

For the Chinese style of action movies the effects were quite well in Hero, Tiger and Dragon, House of the flying daggers.
Not every movie needs aliens and a President who takes the plane to fight them (according to a news report Bush even crashes with his bike, not to mention his driving under the influence of alcohol incident).

I think this (special effects) is not important for a regional style of movie because you can just buy it from specialist studios...the financing is international anyway....even a small, to most people unknown movie like "Blind Shaft" got financed from somewhere in Europe (but it is often an international mix).

The thing here is not copying styles from other countries (Hollywood, Bollywood,......each one is unique), and it is about an unique style.

To CONNY:

The reason for the comprehension problem might be because the fake copies often have a wrong translation or subtitles;-))))

actually I saw each film of the series of Star Wars or The Matrix in cinema ,maybe the concept the director want to express is surrealistic ,and I lack of imagination ,so it's hard to comprehend ,the flaring special effects made me giddy*_*
to peacock : I'm not a loyal movie fan ,movie or teleplay is dispensable for me unless it is really a classical one .

One interesting fact is that watching a movie in the cinema is as expensive as buying 2-3 dvds(the same new movie at the same time).
No surprise that box office success of those foreign movies is quite poor in China.

But some movies just have to be seen on a big screen.

It is a great pity that I haven't seen movies in the big and modern cinemas. I guess that will be great enough to shock me. I do agree that some movies shoud be seen in the well-equipmented cinemas.
