Good point Rita. hat's just one of the problems China is facing whilst it has one of the worlds largest wealth gaps.

The richest 10% of urban dwellers hold 45% of wealth in China, according to official statistics. The poorest 10% of the population, meanwhile, hold just 1.4% of wealth.

Think about those statistics for one second... then think about this...

Statistics suggest that as much as 77% of government education funding went to urban areas in 2002. Even though China's rural population accounts for more than 60% of the population, only 23% of funds were given.

It's a simple concept-
Funding for a better education throughout the whole of China is good for Chinese people. Educated Chinese people is good for China.

Gini coefficient (used to measure income inequality)

According to Chinese official statistics, the Gini coefficient of China rose from a low level of 0.33 in 1980, to 0.40 in 1994, and to 0.46 in 2000. While the international alarming line is 0.4.

In August every year, there are news about people commit suicide for not being able to collect enough money for the children's college.

I heard a lot about how young people become independent when they are 17 or 18, and pay for their colleges by themselves, but if you have even a short experience in China, you will not criticize Chinese young people for not being able to do that as those in western countris.

To Conny,
"they won't rise the fee in short term"

What do you think "short term" they meant? If this kind of sayings were from "ministry of education" I feel really upset.

A remarkable leader in China has forwarded a remarkable & original idea/pattern of development: Let a small group of people get rich first, then they would help the others. It seems to me that the earlier rich people are quite enjoy being richer than many others.

But look back through Chinese history, it has been always true that a small group of people get rich earlier than much more others. So what's new?
