That's because in order to release the people in the city out of the extreme misery, a lot of brave soldiers died a glorious death more than half a century ago. There are altogether four famous battles here to liberate the city, so it is called Siping for commemoration. |

| Here is the fictional explanation of the reason why Yinchuan was called the "phenix city", phenix is the king(maybe queen) of birds, wherever the phenix show up, all the other birds should shy away. Yinchuan has been so desolate that no birds would nidificate and live there, so people say it is the phenix city. |

| That's not the story I heard about Yinchuan - I heard that a phoenix and a few of her sisters stopped there to rest, and the youngest phoenix thought it was so beautiful that she couldn't bring herself to leave, and so the little phoenix stayed... |
