![]() | Ive got the Fried Rice Fever, oh I'm sick, I eat to much, it makes me Sh#t! Everyday I dream of the things I could eat, Vegtables, curries, maybe even meat. But Im so bleak, I cant speak, I'm in need, I cant read, Help me please, before I die I got the fried rice fever ohhhh my! Dear everybody, Eating in China is a constant hassle for me. My speaking and reading skills are horrible. I look at a Chinese menu with a blank face and wonder all the wonderful things I could be eating besides FRIED RICE. Can anyone give some suggestions. Just general food that most restraunts serve. Not friend noodles please. Kyle ![]() |

![]() | There are so many choices. You are in Kunming, right? You can try more restaurants and cuisines. Canton foods are good for new settlers, I guess, they are more lite. |

![]() | Hi Kyle I know exactly what you mean so you'll have to learn a few. My favourite filler's especially while travelling are Egg and tomoato - Fan xie qiao ji dan Dry fried string beans -- Gan bien si zhi dou The greens from pease (in season) -Wan dou zhen Potato chips like french fries -Gan bien tu dou si (zi) or shredded potato lightly fried - tu dou si Fish flavoured meat dish - Yu Xiang rou si Cucumber in vinegar - Huang gua something ???? Green hollow stem veggie - Kong Cai And you also may want to learn NO CHILI - Bu yao la jiao or a little chili - yi dianr la jiao (although this never seems to work for me) NO MSG - bu yao wei jing All this is pin yin phonetics so hope you are at least familiar with them. Perhaps some of the locals can add to this, especially the other name for french fries. |

![]() | i guess reading and speaking out the words is a bit of hassle initially, so you might need lots of practise and memory work. one practical way is to get a local chinese to go with you to order and you learn to order, hands on. this way you will for sure know what you order. |
