Here is the official site http://www.chinatibettrain.com permit info, train schedule and fares, photos, etc. It is not a tour agency trying to sell you something. Goodluck.

Does anyone know if it is possible to take the train from Beijing into Lhasa and then a flight back? Does anyone have a travel agency to recommend? I have written to several and do not get any responses? I plan on travelling the end of March 2007.

Hi, Have a look at this page, you can find a Tibet Tour icon. Click it, and see if you can find what you want. Cheers, Siva

| Yes, you can take train from Beijing to Lhasa then a flight back. You may contact gmail.com|tibetfit.service to arrange all these things include legal tibet permit for you. I have a good experience with them, they are highly recommend by a lot of backpackers. |

I am somewhat confused here - I thought there was already a train in operation a long time ago to go to Lhasa? The new train that we are talking about here - is it just a new train running on the same track? Or there hasn't been a train going to Lhasa before? And is this the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, or is that something different again? Sorry I am just learning so this might be a stupid question.

Hi CAROLNYNY, This is an old post so maybe you are confused by our 'outdated' talk. ^_^ There is already trains running to Lhasa, from Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, etc. But the luxurious sightseeing train is still under construction. Cheers!

Yes, depending on where you first started from...?! You will have to buy point-to-point tickets for all your expected legs. You CANNOT hop-on-hop-off on the same ticket.
