It's possible and good travelling from Lhasa to Nepal and onward to India, by bus or flight.

I heard that it is not possible to travel by bus from Chengdu to Lhasa, that it is only possible to get a permit to enter Tibet by plane. Is this true?

A question also regarding the railway to lhasa. I was wondering whether it was possible to get the train from Lhasa to Beijing.

No, there are no trains from Lhasa to Beijing. All the trains arriving in Lhasa have to be dismantled and transported by truck (Express trains by aeroplan) back to Beijing.

From Chengdu 48 hours

From ChongQing- 48 hours 50 min

From LanZhou - 29 Hours 45 min

From XiJing - 26 hours 47 min
Fare RMB 226/523/810

I found the schedule of Tibet train from http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/tibet/train-to-tibet/

It will take you about 24 hours from Chengdu to Lhasa.
