GUESTTOBORDE... wow dude you left taipei for xiamen? strange choice. there are only a few cities in china i'd leave taipei for (shanghai, beijing, suzhou, hangzhou, hell even kunming) but not xiamen. taipei is a fantastic city. hope you enjoy xiamen, though.

IMO:

Everyone is entitled to their opinon, keep in mind that China is vast and diverse.
Traveling to Xiamen from Taipei and vice versa makes a lot of sense if you understand the cultural and economic ties between the 2 cities.
As you expand out from one city in China to the nieghboring cities and provinces you begin to realize that the Chinese people are quite diverse even though the rest of the world wants to label them all as just "Han Chinese". There are not only different dialects spoken but completely different languages spoken also.
Thank you for allowing me this "rant"!
