I will be heading to Mainland China and I was wondering what all of you think to be the greatest mementos/souvenirs to bring home?

Jade: I personally like jade very much, but the qualities are extremely varied, you may need an expert to accompany you when choose jade.

Traditional paper cutting (especially choose some animal designs which represent the years that your family or friends were born.). Not expensive and you don't need to 'ship' them back home.

Silk products

Cloisonne

Thanks for the great ideas!

WOCCA, I was going to do the generic tours until I found this great website - now I know for sure that I want to see Xi'an and Bejing; I am still deciding on the rest.

Hey Pinetree,

That is the best souvenir to bring back. I am bringing one back when I go to China this year and she is a wonderful woman.

IMO, paper cutting is great! And also shadow puppetry, cloisonne, silk, etc.
You can also buy some other souvenirs such as local food!
But I don't know whether the foods can enter your country or not.

I love all the ideas! I never would have thought of many of them.

WOCCA: please note the photo I posted for this thread- can I get a life-size Xian Archer in terracotta cheaper than what I have in this photo? Tell me more!

MAY001: tell me about paper cutting please?
