Tourist visitors to China annually (2005):

3.5 million Koreans.
2.0 million Japanese.

No other nation comes close to visiting the PRC as a tourist.

The West - North America and Europe are the fastest growing sector of tourism to China, but these numbers will not show up until next year due to the decrease of tourists because of the SARS epidemic.

I didn't see alot of Westerners when I visited Jiangnan, Fujian & Sichuan in 2002, 2004 & 2005 respectively. There were a handful of them in places like Shanghai, Jiuzhaigou and Wuyishan. Most tourists are chinese mainly from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan & Hongkong. I have the same observation as PINETREE i.e. majority of them tend to be older people. I'm already 30+ but I am one of the youngest in a tour group of more than 30 people.

When we are young, we don't have enough time and money; When we have enough time and money, we are old.

I think China needs to do something quickly if they wish to attract the younger generation to the country.

My friends and colleagues who are around my age or younger just don't understand why I visited China almost every year for the past 4 years. When I wanted to visit Sichuan in 2005, many of them would ask me "Huh, China again! why do you like China so much?"

I am tired of explaining to them that China has so much to offer such as beautiful scenaries, rich cultures, fastastic foods, value for money, cheap DVDs, the toilets are quite clean now, etc.

May, you are so smart !!! You have made the [new] Chinese proverb !!!

Quote: MAY001--When we are young, we don't have enough time and money; When we have enough time and money, we are old…...

Another way to say this, is that ……“Youth is wasted on the young” !!!! LOL LOL

Thands, ROGERINCA, I'm really flattered! Hoping that I can be a young, energetic, free and of course rich tourist!
