"Best" is relative. How many of you are there and how much luggage do you have? There're buses for Zhangjiagang -- Yangzhou, departure times 0745/1045/1345/1645, fare 49 RMB.

Hi, Thank you for kindly offering your help. I am travelling to China from the UK in two weeks, and would apprciate answers to the following.... 1) Where can I buy a ticket for the fast boat to Putuoshan from Shanghai? 2) Where does the boat depart from? And do I need to get a bus to the boat? If so, where does the bus depart from? 3) If you know departure times for the bus and boats, that would be useful 4) After visiting Putuoshan, what is the quickest way for me to get to Hangzhou (via train from Ningbo?) How do I do this exactly, and where can I buy tickets for this etc? As detailed information as you could provide would be great please! (addresses, names, prices etc...) Thanks!

1) Either at the ferry departure point, or the Nanpu Bridge bus terminus (1588 Waima Lu). 2) AFAIK, it's Luchao port which's on a small island in the far SE of Shanghai. Yes, there's a bus leaving from the Nanpu Bridge bus terminus 1.5 hours before the ferry departure time. Otherwise you could take a taxi to get there. 3) Ferries depart at 0930, 1000 and 1530, journey time is 2.5 hours. 4) Probably take a boat back to Zhoushan (the main port for this group of islands) and then a bus to Hangzhou.

URGENT - help needed quick please! Ellyse - thank you very much for the answers above I have another question.... I am looking to identfy a spot in Shanghai to watch the solar eclipse on July 22nd. It has to be: a) within one hour travelling time (train / metro / taxi whatever) to Pudong airport b) somewhere that is more likely to have cleaner air and clearer skies (so out of the Shanghai City smog) c) somewhere fairly quiet with not that may people around d) somewehre with fairly open spaces for watching the eclipse (no skyscrapers etc) e) hopfully somewhere nice and possibly romantic too! Can you suggest somewhere? I was thinking maybe somewhere in Nanhui or Fengxian, near to the south shanghai coast....? If you could let me know any suggestions in the next few days it would be ace becuse I am leaving for China next weekend. Thanks again.

1) One. 2) and 3) Suzhou North long-distance bus station every 20 mins starting from 0620. Or Suzhou South long-distance bus station at 0620, 0650, 0720, 0800, 0830, 0900, 0915, 0930, 0945, 1000, 1015, 1030, 1045, 1120, 1140 and 1200. 4) Not sure what the price for such a taxi ride would be, and I don't know what you would deem "expensive" either.
