 | i am traveling to Xi'an in Sept. Are tours available to see all the sites, or is it better to take a taxi? Any other suggestions on seeing everything? also, can you safely eat in the restaurants without any problems? Do the hotel rooms have western toilets? vickie |

| Welcome to Xi'an! Sep is the best time to visit here, not too hot and not too cold, just the interval between Summer and Autumn. The taxi fee of Xi'an is much cheaper commparatively, so take taxi:D Usually the foreigners would visit the Bell Tower, and strolling on the South Road (Dong Da Jie) and West Road (Xi Da Jie). Maybe you can meet other foreigners, even some form your country. Also do taste the snack of the Snack Street (Hui Ming Jie) near the famous Drum Tower. This is the must aee and must eat for every foreigner to come to Xi'an. |

| Hi, Vickie! Will you come to Xi'an by yourself or with the travel agency? If dine in the restaurant which the agency arranges for you, you just can set your heart at rest. Generally speaking, it is very safty to eat in restaurant, even when you are alone. Do remember exchange your money into RMB before you visit. And about the toilet in most hotel is of course of the western style. All the hotels in Xi'an above 3 stars are furnitured with the western style toilets. And the ones with the hole in the ground as the toilet can be seldom seen now. If you have any questions, please ask without any hesitation. I am very glad to be of any help:D |

| Anna, thank you for your answers. i am traveling to xian with global volunteers. we will be spending about 6 days in xian. i will then be going to An Shang. I realize in An Shang, things will be different than Xian. I can hardly wait to see everything in xian. i plan to change my US currency to RMB here in the states, before i travel. I guess my biggest worry in Xian is the food. I just have nightmares about getting sick. In An Shang, we will have someone cooking for us. You mentioned the Snack Street (Hui Ming Jie), i did not know that it was ok for me to buy from street vendors. Do you live in Xian? thanks again vickie |

| Hi, Vickie! Will you prefer the western food or the local Chinese food when you are in Xi'an? Outside of the five-star hotels and the inevitable KFCs, Xi'an offers little in the way of Western food. If you still want to taste some western food, I will recommend one restaurant who mainly seel the pizza, Highfly Pizza (Gaofei Bisa). It's a relief to find pizza (the four-cheese and pepperoni pizzas are superb), real oven-baked penne, tuna sandwiches, chocolate brownies, even Texas stew. There are vegetarian options, the kitchen is spotless, and the entire restaurant is nonsmoking. |

| Snack Street really deserves your visit! Every foreigner who come to Xi'an love the food there. And there you will love the tasty barbeque and the famous Jiasan Guantang Bao Zi, with a choice of beef, lamb or "three flavors" -- lamb, mushroom, and prawn. The dumplings have piping-hot soup inside, so let them cool before testing your chopstick skills. |

| hi, thanks for the information. oh i definately want the local chinese food. i have never had a dumpling before, can not wait to try it. it is good to hear about the pizza place though. just in case i am a little homesick, pizza will pull me thru. chinese food is my favorite, but i am sure it is nothing like our western style chinese. i am extremely excited to be in china, i still cant get over the fact that i am going. I have been reading up on all the local sites to see. the terra cotta warriors and the great wall are both something i am looking forward to seeing. thanks for your feedback vickie |

| Yeah, Xi'an Dumpling Dinner (Xi'an Jiao Zi Yan)should be included in your Xi'an trip. In fact, it should be called the speciality of Xi'an, not the local snacks. Every foreigner who comes to Xi'an would taste it. While enjoy it, you also can get more about the history of this Chinese traditional food, and why eating dumplings is one custom in China, especially at Spring Festival (Chun Jie). Meanwhile you will be told some interesting and lovely stories about it. It is said that to visit Xi'an without seeing the fantastic Terracotta Army as well as having a Dumpling Dinner means that you have not really been to Xi'an at all! |
