Can anyone advise me what would be the perfect wedding gift for my 2 chinese friends who are marrying in Sept? They mean so much to me and I want to get them something really special. Would something Chinese be more suitable than something English? Please help! x

Hi, If I were your friend, I prefer something English. Special things to memorize the special friendship between you and your friend.

What should the red bag be made of? Can I buy it here in England as I will not have time to purchase one in China before the wedding. Also, are there any do's and don'ts about what makes a good wedding gift in China? I know in England there are lots of rules about good luck items etc

You can buy the Red Bag at Chinatown, I think. Never send Chinese the Clock as gifts. It will be a terrible present!!

Shoes(no matter how much they cost) are not good gifts, either, not for wedding or any special festivals.

My wife and I have attended many weddings, and we ALWAYS give 200Y in the red PAPER envelopes.. the envelopes are made for many occasions, so be sure to check that "wedding" is the one you get... and they are readily available at many 'shops'
