I will arrive in Shanghai airport (which one?) and want to take the train to Hangzhou. I don't speak Chinese and I am female and will travel with another female. Can I take on this adventure? How do I find the train from airport in Shanghai? How long is train to Hangzhou? Will a taxi take me safely to my hotel in Hangzhou if I don't speak Chinese?
Thanks!!! Barb

Hi and to answer your question there is an airport bus from pudong airport that takes you within walking distance of the railway station where you can buy your ticket for Hangzhou. I have been to Shanghai several times and have stayed near the railway station. The railway ticket office has an English speaking window where you can buy your train ticket. It is only about an 2 hour ride to Hangzhou so it is not very long. You can maybe get the bus number from an English speaking agent. I am sorry I forgot the number right now. I hope this helps. Have a good trip.

Which city are you going to travel from, Barb? If you travel from a city of another country, you will arrive at Pudong Airport. While most domestic flights arrive at Hongqiao, but there are exceptions.

From Pudong Airpor to Shanghai Railway Station, you can take the shuttle bus, Line 5, operates every 20 minutes @ 18rmb p.p

There are plenty of trains running between SH and HZ, takes from 1.5 hours to nearly 4 hours accordng to the speed of the trains. It seems whenever you get to the railway station you can catch one:).

Sure, it's safe to take taxi to your hotel room, and you'd better have your hotel name and address written in a piece of paper and show it to the taxi driver.
