Are foreign friends better than your Chinese friends ? Or you just want to practise your English ?

You did not say if the person was an American, English, or European English speaker....

In the United States we sit at our own tables and rarely share. This is not a good thing, we lack trust in unknown people.

Some of this is justified and some of it is not.

If you want to make the acquaintance of an English speaker, you must find a way to make them comfortable that they are not going to be conned or hurt while they are in a country that is strange to them. Remember, they cannot speak to hardly anyone...and it is takes time for an English speaker to understand a Chinese speaker speaking English.....

When I was in China the first time, I had no concerns for my safety at any level. In my most recent trip, the precautions people take are more justified. There are many hustlers now.

I have many years traveling so I feel confident I can identify most danger and most cons. Most people do not have that experience.

So to meet someone you must give them confidence that you are not a threat.

...as for being good looking...most people see beyond that if you win their trust. ...and as a Chinese woman, you are certainly attractive to most American men.

Could this person have been concerned that his wife would find him speaking to a lovely Chinese woman?

Certain foreigners visit Asian countries to discriminate or with pre-conceived ideas. Some still think that they are living in colonial times.
The thing is that you seem bothered by it. Yes, why ?

If you see foreigners with Chinese people it could be they are friends or workmates, it doesnt mean they are strangers that have just met.
In the west it is unusual for us to just start conversations with someone we dont know, more so have a meal with them.

Do you just want foreigners to chat with? try chatting with them through this websites forums.
If you just want to chat and improve your English then leave me your details in my messagebox as I am on msn regularly
