| Latest update: Gmail is totally unavailable in China; it's blocked. Prior to it being blocked I was able to use Thunderbird to access Gmail. but even Thunderbird is blocked. Hotmail is OK. Not sure about Yahoo but because Google is not allowed and Bing is the default search engine, then Yahoo search is unavailable. So put two and two together there! Problem I had was when I went back to Australia for a month, a little while ago and Windows 10 had a problem with me logging in from a new geographical position. I had trouble proving who I was. And of course you need a second email address (or phone number; I can use my phone in China to verify myself, but not with a temp number in Australia) to send the login details. Of course, Gmail worked for me in Australia and I was able to catch up on all my inaccessible mail for a year!!! A VPN is a way round it(if you have a credit card, which is virtually impossible to obtain as a foreigner). But if you can live without Facebook and Twitter and Youtube, it's not needed. I can see most (albeit older) movies and concerts on youku |
