OK, so i am trying to get a license the legal way and i asked my friends to contact the local driving authority (a few of them actually) and they all say the same thing ..... i can not just take the written test and i can not take someone in to the exam to translate for me. I am in the Foshan/Shunda area, can anyone give me some information on where i can take a test in this area (where they will actually let me that is). I dont mind going to Zhuhai or somewhere a few hours drive away, so any recommendations and contact numbers would be great!

Thanks

GUEST84228 Just got back from Wujiang in Jiangsu Province with the first part of obtaining my license. We went to a medical office, where for 10 RMB I got my eyes checked, hearing checked and tested to see if my hands shake. We then went to the police where they did the paperwork. I will get a class C and E, which is for car and motorcycle, since my Canadian license, which I needed to get translated, states that I have both. Tomorrow we go and write the exam and then we get the license next Wednesday. So far, pretty painless. We asked the cop how the others could get their motorcycle license if they didn't have one from Canada and he said that they can come back in 30 days and go through the process again, but they will have to take a road test as well.

GUEST10135 I got my Chinese driver's license a few years ago and it was very easy. As long as you have the right type of visa. You must have a residence visa! No other legal way without this type of visa.

Just bring your license and a certified translation of it and take a written (computer) test and a few minor medical tests. Very quick and simple.

GUEST12494 Well, never say never, work is established and visa is solid. Driving is a very, very small task. If you know the direction you are headed and are fully aware of the plus and minus, or the yin and the yang, then the transition should be smooth. <PERIOD>.
Been living in the pacific and orient for years. <PERIOD>. Granted you have to be ready for the pit falls. It is another country with its own element. Be safe and enjoy your tour.

GUEST33654
seriously no foreigner can get a driver's licence in China - unless provided that he is being employed or working in China and have a valid working visa - period. No other way around it.
This is wrong! I live since 4y on L-Visa in Shenzhen and have my chinese drivers license since ~2y. I only had to do the theoretical test.
