Walk around the streets of Lin'an and you'll be hard pressed to miss the groups of four warmly dressed locals around a table playing mahjong (麻将). In dongbei, Chinese Chess (象棋)seems to be the game of choice.

I have learned to play Chinese Chess, although I am pretty bad at it.

I am about to start to learn the Classical Chinese Rules of Mahjong. I love the intricacies of this game and the click of the tiles :) I can think of little better than a cozy winter evening, mahjong and a bottle of red wine.

Anyone else love playing Chinese games ?

I don't like mahjong. Most times in China, mahjong goes along with gambling. People often devote themselves too much in it.

I like to play Chinese Chess but it is difficult to find someone to play with in Singapore. So I downloaded a free Xiangqi software recently and played with the computer. I won 3 but lost 12 times! What a shame!

I also enjoy playing mahjong. I play with my friends about one or twice a year.

mahjong is really an important kind of entertainment for Chinese, especially for the old and usually when the old play mahjong, there is no gambling accompanied.

I am really enjoying learning Mahjong but the scoring is sooooo complicated. We don't play for money... it is enough just to be with good company and the fun of the game.

Sayhitoant, is the xiangqi software good ? I have tried to download free ones but they have not been very good. Could you post the link for me ?
