Hi! Thank you for the offer! I am traveling to Shenzhen and Guangzhou in April. I want to get from Shenzhen to Guangzhou on 12 April and will leave to Shenzhen on 14 April. 1. I plan to take the bullet train. Is it advisable? 2. I also want to book a hotel near to the shopping area where I do not have to worry about fighting with others for a taxi as there are 5 of us traveling. My parents and my aunt and uncle and we would prefer to be in walking distance to shopping areas. Any recommendations for hotels? I have booked Guangzhou Bai Gong Hotel, but am worried. I would like a comfortable hotel for my parents. 3. Is Beijing Road better for shopping or Shang Xia Jiu Road better in terms of haggling for price as we do not want to bargain too much and do not want to be cheated either? Any recommendations for factory outlets or shopping areas besides these two? 4. What food that we have to not miss, and can u tell us where so that we can truly enjoy Guangzhou? 5.Are there any attractions that we must not miss? Am not too interested in the places the tours will bring us, but more so of the places we must see to feel Guangzhou. We are arriving Guangzhou at 12 noon on 12 April and possibly leaving Guangzhou at anytime on 14 April. Thank you. Regards, Grisela

1) There is no bullet train from SZ to GZ just an express fast train about 120-180 km per hour. SZ-GZ with D train takes approximately 1 hr to East Station. The cost is RMB75 per person. 2) Most hotels in GZ are near to shopping areas though not that near to GZ Metro stations. As you already have booked Baigong hotel which is in Renmin South Road, is not far from the famous Pearl River. It's near the famous electronic market adn also you can walk to Shangxiajiu about 15 minutes. After knowing GZ a little bit you may decide to remain at that hotel or move out. 3) Both SXJ and BJL offer good bargains but I prefer SXJ walking street, better. The prices depend on your ability to bargain, they won't be angry. If yo need better bargain, you may appoint a local guide or a local student. 4) Food, various cuisines are offered. You will know once you are in GZ. 5) Good tour guide will bring you to good places. Not all tour guides take commissions from the business establishments. Some are even doing it for free, especially students. Just give them some tips and of course food and some pocket money. Wan

Hi Wanhu! Thank you for your response. Are there any other recommended hotels on SXJ? Thank you.

1) No such "bullet train", you mean the D train. Those are my top recommendation. 2) What is your definition of "comfortable hotel", and what price range do you have in mind? 4) Cantonese dimsum and Cantonese cuisine. There're literally tens of thousands of restaurants in Guangzhou. When asking it would be wise to give a price range per head (and location as well if possible) to narrow down the selection. 5) "Must not miss" would vary from person to person. IMHO I would go to at least Chen Clan Academy (Chen Jia Ci) and Shamian island. If you are interested in "oddities" and aren't an animal activist, include Qingping market; if you're interested in history/archaeology, include Tomb of the Nanyue Kingdom.

Hi Elysse! 1) Yes it was D-Train. 2) I booked Guangzhou Bai Gong Hotel because they said it is on Shang Xia Jiu Road and that is a huge shopping street. And some information said that it is difficult to get a cab from that place. My price budget is RMB300-RMB400 per night. Comfortable hotel to me means clean, not too old, not shabby and does not seem scary. 4) For food, we do not mind the cost as long as the food is wonderful. By the way, is it better to stay in BaiGong Hotel or Victoria Hotel? I wanted to choose somewhere where it is located walking distance to shopping streets and someone recommended Shang Xia Jiu Road. Thank you.
