When my wife and I had our traditional Wedding Supper, the guests left the Red Envelopes with a gift.

They come in slightly different sizes, and can have a large variance of decoration on them, depending on the event or occasion.

Hi, lionpower,

In fact, "Shui"(Water) is not completely equal to Soft Drink. It is a general name of water.

For Soft Drink, we say it Ruan Yinliao (soft drink) or just Yinliao (drink).

For Hard Drink, we do not say it Ying Yinliao as word-for-word translation of the English name. we usually say Jiu (alcohol).

Tips of Chinese Pinyin for some related words:
Water - Shui
Soft - Ruan
Hard - Ying
Soft Drink - (Ruan) Yinliao
Hard Drink - Jiu
Beer - Pi Jiu

Money you get during the Spring Festival will never be a big amount. So, just forget it. ^o^ But there are news showed that many people in China have to prepare one or even two months' salary to deal with the Spring Festival. The money they spent includs Red Envelope (红包
), special purchases for the Spring Festival (年货),gifts to relatives while visiting(年礼),fares for play and dining with friends, etc
